Palestinian Volunteer in the UK

Bye Bye London!

We used to say these words when we were kids, that time i didn't even know where London is!
Now, the time came to mean these words.

The experience as an EVS Volunteer in the UK with CADFA gave me a lot. I met plenty of people, my network is huge now  as I met many many people from many different places. I've learnt lots of things, soft skills, language skills, culture awareness, English traditions and customs. Living in London for 5 months with an English family showed me the details of the English's mornings,evenings and the lifestyle.



I visited many cities in the UK (York, Bristol, Manchester, Cambridge, Liverpool) and I've been to Dorset in the country side which is very different from the big cities.

This great experience's outcomes will last forever and ever!

EVS Relflections

I am approaching my last two days working for CADFA and I am also approaching my last week in London. I am happy to say that I almost fulfilled everything that I wanted to obtain from this experience. I can easily say now that I am a  person who is able to live independently, a person who deliver a talk and a person whose world view have widened and changed.

The CADFA experience gave me time to think about Palestine in the frames of the international world. I have managed to help in spreading my own experience to the world and the surrounding helped me in doing so. I find it great to speak to people who are curious about Palestine, people who already formed their opinions and people who want to help in whatever way they can. The experience was refreshing on a personal and a general level.

One of the things I really admire about this work is consistency. It's very difficult to approach the world with heavy causes like the Palestinian one. However, through CADFA's work I was allowed the chance to see Palestinian teachers connecting with British teachers on a more personal and human level. I have seen people sign petitions against human rights violations on the street, and I have seen people donating food and clothes.

These four and a hald months helped me shape my own understanding of the Palestinian cause in the West. It encouraged me to initiate ideas and bring Palestine to the UK through film, art, and daily experiences. I am leaving London feeling satisfied and happy for I feel and I believe the person in me developed through this informative experience. I am looking forward to going back to Palestine and reflecting on my experience with others.

My expectations for the trip to London:

·       I will live a new experience, and a really fun travel.

·       Discovery of a new world full of vigor and vitality and safety.

·       Discovery a new cultures, new foods and new friendships.

·         Listening to some of the problems of British society.

In addition:

·       In the beginning, I will find a difficult to cope because of my poor English, But I am confident I will overcome this problem quickly with  Camden and some friend.

·       I need a few days to get to know the nature of London's transport and the work some of universities, schools and institutions.

Visiting York and More

After having a great visit to York, we are currently working on making another film night in CADFA offices. York is a great city and it's rich with history. The talk at the University of York was also successful and well attended. Speaking about personal experiences as a student with other students is always a good thing for they can relate in some ways and we can raise awareness about students' conditions.

We are approaching our last month in the UK and I can only say that so far I have managed to accomplish mostly everything I had in mind when I first arrived. I am happy working on these blogs and I am happy organizing events and doing stalls in different places. I feel more comfortable and confident when I speak of the Palestinian struggle. I hope the last month will confirm these accomplishments and give me more time to reflect on things.

The holiday was a great time to reflect on work and the past couple of months spent in London. It was also great to explore what is beyond London. During the holiday, I went to Bath with some of my friends and spent the day there until we decided to visit Bristol at night. Bath is an amazing place for it has great landscape and an exotic nature. Upon returning to London, we spent the next day in Hyde Park where we cycled and did some amazing activities.

I was very enthusiastic to attend the EVS training in Birmingham and as expected it was really nice and fruitful.
There we met a lot of active and kind volunteers from the whole world, learned about the EVS and the voluntary work, (i.e what are the volunteers' roles, responsibilities, rights...)
Three days in the training were effective, informative and very nice network.
I would like to thank the trainer 'Lorrine' for her efforts and power. Also many thanks to each and everyone of the volunteers who attended the training, who put his special touches during the congress, they made a very memorable minute
